Drop-In Peer Supervision Session

This drop-in group is an opportunity for colleagues to come together into pop up peer groups and access support and supervision. We will begin this session with the large group; the intention being to move into peer groups, spending most of the workshop in peer group supervision. This is also an opportunity for peer groups that have already formed to meet at the same time as other groups and feel a wider community creating a container in wwhich multiple peer groups can be held.\ This session will be convened by Joan &… Read More

Report Back: ISN Online Conference July 3rd 2020

On July 3rd almost 200 of us met for an online ISN conference.  It had been planned online from the beginning because it is a widely spread network, still emergent and small so this seemed the best way of going forward.  As it happened it turned out to be the only way.  We had some excellent speakers, Keemar Keemar who looked at how we relate to supervision through our autobiographies and Juliet Grayson and William Ayot presented on their work with perpetrators – Compassion for Perpetrators.  William is also a poet and he… Read More

Introducing the Online Forum for ISN

A Brief History  Robin and I (CSTDLondon) started running the online group supervision in conjunction with Onlinevents on Thursday mornings from March 26th 2020.  The idea for it emerged in a conversation with John Wilson and Fabienne Chazeaux of onlinevents.  However it was conceived well before then through many years of us running supervision groups and trainings in supervision, the monthly Friday drop in supervision group and the supervisors network (ISN), from John Wilson’s side running onlinevents for the last eleven years and jointly our working together on and off for the last eight… Read More

ISN – The Journey So Far: Outcomes

On March 3rd Joan Wilmot spoke with John Wilson of Online Events about the intention and purpose of the Interdependent Supervisors Network and reflected on the following questions: Is it needed and by whom? How do we support each other in our work life as supervisors? What structures support us? How do we manage the creative tension between our need to belong and our need to do our own thing? How do we create community and connection when we are spread all round the country? How does technology help or hinder this?… Read More

Being your own best friend

How would you like to treat yourself? Maria Arpa Many people I speak to find it really easy to be in service of others and find it very difficult to be in service of their self. The most obvious example of this is the personal ‘to do’ list. I can easily foil a person’s unconscious plan to make their own life less wonderful by asking a really simple question: ‘Would you give that ‘to do’ list to anyone else and expect them to feel it is a reasonable ask?’ Not surprisingly the… Read More

My Favourite Books on Therapy

This is a personal list (obviously). I originally intended to start with my top ten, but the list just grew. I would be interested in others’ favourites. Robin Shohet  Early influences. Mostly 60’s and early 70’s.  I still think they might have something to offer If You Meet the Buddha on the Road, Kill Him. Sheldon Kopp. In the mid-seventies, when I was new to therapy, I remember the sense of excitement in reading this classic. I think it stands the test of time. Uncommon Therapy. Jay Haley. Ditto. Describes the work… Read More

Exploring the Dynamics of Complaints

Robin Shohet (Article published in Self and Society Vol 45 No. 1 April 2017) People have reported not feeling supported by their professional bodies around complaints.  As one of the aims of ISN is to create a supportive and challenging community, I wanted to post this article which might throw light on some of the issues that arise. It would be good to hear from people. Many professionals have a fear of a complaint being made against them. In this article my aim has been to throw some light on some of… Read More
